Innovation is now essential for long-term growth and competitiveness, yet many organisations still manage it informally. Ideas are collected but not acted on, initiatives compete for the same resources, and poorly managed efforts result in wasted investment, missed market opportunities, limited collaboration and reduced value creation. ISO 56001:2024, the first certifiable international standard for innovation management systems (IMS), gives organisations a structured way to manage ideas, opportunities and innovation initiatives with the same discipline they apply to quality, safety or information security.

ISO 56001 Foundation is the entry point to the ISO 56001 track of the PMO Innovations Innovation by Design Pathway. It is an official PECB training course, delivered by PMO Innovations as an authorised PECB training provider. Over two days, participants acquire fundamental knowledge of an IMS, including its key concepts, principles and methodologies, and learn how organisations establish, implement and support an effective IMS to drive value creation, structured innovation and continual improvement.

The course combines lectures, discussions, practical examples, exercises and quizzes whose structure mirrors the certification exam. It concludes with the one-hour PECB ISO 56001 Foundation exam. Candidates who pass are awarded the “Certificate Holder in ISO 56001 Foundation” credential, which shows they understand the fundamental principles, concepts and requirements of an IMS based on ISO 56001, including innovation management, leadership, risk assessment and organisational collaboration.
